Exponential growth in computing and reduced cost for storage further fueled by ever increasing demand for enterprise mobility and seamless business productivity without constraint of location, user type and device type has made cloud ubiquitous. Consequently, there is exponential growth in volume of business information which needs new paradigms for its mining, management, and security. Business entities across all industry sectors have adopted cloud as a very significant part of their transformation strategies. Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning is at the core of the cloud value proposition.
Specific to security, we are seeing a new approach that is rippling across industry sectors, product companies, and threat actors. Mature and outlier security leaders have moved from an approach that stitches together dozens of best of breed security products to relying on an integrated security platform that provides several interconnect security capabilities where best of breed may not be the most important facet of each individual capability. The security world is also moving from providing security to data to deriving security from data. Defenders are transitioning from appliances that shrink data volumes for manageability to cloud based intelligent approaches that capture more data than ever before. Innovators are seeking signals across user, device, and application activity, and building learning systems to master security insights from them. Users are central to this new world, as security solutions adapt from placing controls on them to creating controls from their information trail.
This session will cover concepts of Artificial Intelligence & Machine learning, their relevance for Security and the differentiating qualities of the modern security approaches from Msft that leverage heavily the cloud and derive potency from AI & ML. There will be NO specific focus or coverage of Msft products in this session.
Deepak has more than 20 years of professional experience in technology risk management and leadership roles. He is currently an Executive Cybersecurity Advisor at Microsoft assigned to select strategic Government and Commercial organizations in Canada. Prior to this he was leader of the IT & Cyber Risk Consulting practice for Canada at Protiviti – a global management consulting firm. This is Deepak’s second innings at Microsoft; earlier in his career he was the Chief Security Advisor and Director, Privacy at Microsoft India.
Prior to Microsoft and consulting, Deepak has spent most of his career as a practitioner in various industry sectors. Immediately prior to Protiviti, he was Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at ‘The Co-operators Group Limited’ – a leading Canadian full service Insurance company comprising of several individual business entities, with the overall accountability for all IT Risk, Governance, Compliance, Security Architecture and Operations portfolios. Prior to that, he was the Chief Information Security & Privacy Officer for a subsidiary of Telenor Group – a global telecom major. Previously, he was Group Head, Cyber Security at Infosys Technologies, a global IT Services leader. And prior to switching over to the corporate arena, Deepak has served long years as an officer in the Indian Army from where his last rank was Lieutenant Colonel.
During his professional carrier, Deepak has contributed significantly in several technology leadership and management roles. He has demonstrated and proven subject matter expertise and thought leadership in the domains of IT Risk Management, Information & Cyber Security, Business Continuity, and Privacy. He has travelled globally and participated in several professional forums as a speaker, panellist and chairperson. He is also a winner of several awards in the IT and Cyber Security domains.
